HERE'S HOW TO SAVE MONEY!

Here are some questions past customers have asked us on how to save money on their move. We hope these answers will help save you money too!

How can I save money on a local move? Lots of ways! If you have more time than money, try these suggestions. Where you are moving from, take apart your beds. Do your own boxing, and be sure to mark each box by designated room or contents. Have everything packed before the movers arrive. Put all the boxes to be moved in the garage or move the small items and leave the big things for the mover. Have your refrigerator and freezer emptied and cleaned before the movers arrive.
At the new residence, have the movers put the boxes in the garage instead of dispersing them throughout the house. Put your beds back together. Have a definite furniture plan in mind so things won't have to be placed several times. The more you do, the less you pay the movers to do! By saving the movers time you save yourself money! Do you have a question about moving?

We were building a new home so we had to move everything into storage. The movers just took forever to get things moved. Now our new home is finished and we need to move things to the new house. How can we keep it from taking so long? I would be willing to bet you hired a two-man crew. Two men can only do so much no matter how efficient they are. Let me suggest you hire a four-man crew. It sounds more expensive but it takes much less time. With a four-man crew we provide a second truck at no additional cost. You spend about the same amount and you won't have movers putting your beds back together at 10:00 at night!

Why is it necessary to pack into boxes to move about five miles? There are two reasons — protection and efficiency. Efficiency means less money to pay the movers. Items in boxes can be loaded onto the truck so that they will not move about during transportation. Movement on the truck is where most damage occurs. Boxes enable the mover to efficiently use space on the truck. This could prevent an additional trip back to the origin address. Efficient packing should cut the number of trips the mover must make walking to and from the truck. Packing into boxes seems so unnecessary until you consider the time it will save the movers and the protection for your goods. By saving the movers time you save yourself money!

I recently called for local moving prices and was quoted an hourly rate. This makes me uncomfortable. What are my alternatives? The State of Missouri has built-in protection for you. The cost of the move is to be figured at the hourly rate and the tariff rate. The tariff rate is based on distance and the weight of the goods. The customer chooses the least expensive of these. If a moving crew is doing their job the hourly rate will always be less than the tariff rate. Only movers licensed by MODOT will have the tariff rates available. Beware of the mover that offers a binding estimate on a local move. Unlicensed movers in our area have been known to increase the charges before the end of the move and threaten to walk off if the new price is not agreed to.
